The oldest drawing depicts the interior of the Santo Spirito in Florence, Van Blommestein - who at times also called herself Louise Alexandrine van Blommestein - studied at the Academy in Florence in 1898-1899. Van Blommestein illustrated several books: Marjantjes boek van de guldene sproken, by Adelyde Content (1920) (the collection contains a study of the title page of the book) and also Die Göttin, die da harret, by Augusta de Wit (several drawings in the collection with German captions).
