Good copy with library stamp "Ecole des Mines" on reverse of half title, plates with minor tears and leather sl. withered. First French edition, issued simultaneously with the first German edition. The first printing appeared in Philadelphia and London, in 1873, titled A practical treatise on the manufacture of paper in all its branches. In this work Carl Hofman, director of the Public Ledger Paper Mills in Elkton, USA, first describes the history of the papermaking industry, then expands on the production of paper with the aid of machines.
