Flyleaves browned and a few minimal other defects. Desirable set of this monumental publication, on very large and untrimmed paper, from the famous library of Jan Willem Six, lord of Vromade (1872-1936), with his bookplate to the inside of both front boards. This library was auctioned off at Van Stockum in The Hague, 1925-1930. This book was no. 232 in the first auction catalogue in 1925, it was sold for 25 guilders. Muller, Historieplaten 3032. The writer of the first volume is Jean Dumont Baron de Carlscroon (1667-1727, he passed away before the book was published), the second volume is by Jean Rousset de Missy (1686-1762). The book discusses at length the battles during the Spanish War of Succession, under command of the aforementioned three royal highnesses. The best-known of the plates in this book are the 12 double-page engravings after Jan van Huchtenburg (e.g. the battles of Belgrade, Coni, Malplaquet, Oudenaarde, Peterwaradin, Staffarde and Zenta). The enormous plate (leaf dimensions 55.5 x 150 cm.!) with the Bombardement of Geldern is after Hutchtenburg. (total 2)
