Lovely journal, written by Egbert Borchers, son of Captain R.H. Borchers, around the age of 7. Egbert Borchers later became acquainted with Vincent van Gogh, as appears from letters of the latter. Contributions include: "Maandag 16 Junij. Het was een frische wind maar het schip lag geen oogenblik stil; wij waren soms op dek en zagen veel groote visch en zeemeeuwen wij kregen van tijd tot tijd een vijg van vader de arme moe bleef erg zeeziek"; "Dinsdag 17 Junij was het een harde wind en een weinig kaud [corrected to 'koud'] Vader zei kom Egbert je journaal ingevult"; "Dinsdag 8 Julij. Mooi weer moeder naaide mij een fraaije hes ik mogt kleuren rondom ons schepen"; "Zondag 19 Julij. Tracteerde moeke ons rij, aten smiddags lekkere hoendersoep, en bragten de dag in vrolijkheid door." The album also includes a manuscript story of Dickens translated into Dutch (17 p., in adult handwriting, possibly by Egbert Borchers) and several other texts in this handwriting, probably from the school or academic days of the writer (also ± 25 blank pages); (2) Volume of poetry by R.H. Borchers, signed and dated 1844 at the beginning, 75 p. and about the same number of blank pages, contemporary halfleather, small 4to. With inlaid drawing of a three-masted sailing ship with text on the reverse, this concerns a contribution signed by R.H. Borchers to the album amicorum of his brother. (total 2)
