[Belgium. Brussels. Coppens] Perspectives des ruines de la ville de Bruxelles
Designees au naturel par Augustin Coppens 1695. Etched double-p. title p. and 11 double-p. etched views, partly by Richard van Orley after Coppens, partly by Coppens after himself, later calfbacked boards, gilt and ribbed spine w. mor. letterpiece, small folio size.
Sl. browned along middle fold due to the stubs, else a very good copy with ample margins. Etched view of the Brussels town hall pasted on upper pastedown, an old catalogue clipping tipped-in on first free endpaper. Covers sl. stained and worn along extremities; leather rubbed and partly wormholed on joints. Very rare complete series of plates, made after the bombing of the city by Villerot in 1695 by the Brussels painter and engraver Augustin Coppens (1668-1740). Coppens lost his own house in the event. His series constitutes the most important visual account of the disaster.
