Rare first edition, only two copies in PiCarta (The Hague and Groningen). This lovely popular work was reissued by Scholtens in 1848 and 1861. Though the author does not want to name the village, he does provide a number of clues. A beautiful view of mid-19th-century village life, with chapter titles such as "Zaturdag avond in ons dorp", "Eene vrouw en een zaturdag avond in de pastorij", "Een trouwdag op ons dorp", "Onze dokter", "De jaarmarkt", "Onze smid", "Een bezoek van vreemden op ons dorp", "De lotingsdag" and "eene begrafenis".
