Andrea Mantegna (1431-1503) (school). (The Bearers of Trophies).
Etching and engraving after one of the 9 paintings by Mantegna of "The Triumphs of Caesar", and a column, c. 1495, 27.7 x 32 cm. (leaf 33.5 x 44.5 cm.), on laid paper without watermark.
Vertical folds, margins with small tears/ missing pieces and some foxing, yet a good - possibly slightly later - impression and an exceptionally good copy of a very rare print. A variant of this print exists in the opposite direction. We traced online examples of prints with the procession in our direction, with the indication that it was by the "Premier Engraver". A later version of the series in print form was executed by Andrea Andreani (1540-1623).
