Phenakistoscope

Set of 12 revolving discs, c. 1840. Copper engraving, handcoloured. 4 plates with illustrations on both sides. All in good condition. Added: a cast-iron phenakistoscope, height ± 30 cm.

*In 1833 Joseph Plateau invented this fantascope or optical illusion, thus contributing to the foundation of animated film.
