*Intriguing archive regarding the suit filed by Johan Cruyff in order to ban publication of the book, as he had already signed a contract for a book himself with another publisher. Cruyff appealed to the use of his image in the photos by photographer Guus de Jong, who himself often litigated against the use of his photos. Interesting detail: De Jong had previously sold part of his Ajax photo archive to the Supportersvereniging Ajax (supporters' association). After the preliminary injunction had been postponed in October 2003, Tirion went ahead and published the book in November anyway. Later that month, the court ruled that publication of the book would not be prohibited. However, sale of the book had to be ceased on punishment of a 50 thousand euro fine for each book sold after the ruling, as the copyright for a number of the photos used was indeed held by the SV Ajax. This meant that Cruyff had won a Pyrrhic victory and De Jong, too, had not gained anything. Eventually, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands ruled in 2013 that the book, which had sold out in 2008, was allowed to be sold anyway.
