[Heinrich Hoffmann et al.] Photo album Julius Schaub.
Personal photo album of Hitler's adjutant Julius Schaub. Berlin, Bückeberg, Grevenburg, Munich, Nuremberg etc., c. 1933-1936. 56 original photo prints, size 13:18 to 18:24 cm. on 27 sheets pasted in contemporary halfleather scrapbook (spine partly fallen apart, a few small tears to leaves etc., but the photos themselves mostly in good condition), laid in cloth cassette.
Extremely interesting private collection of photos mainly made by Hoffman, partly by "Weltbild", part with annotation "Nicht für Bilderdienst". Compiled by Julius Schaub (1898-1967), Hitler's personal adjutant. Eight images known from the photo archive of Heinrich Hoffman, the other photos not in the archive and have mostly probably remained unknown. Many of the images with Hitler and his entourage have been taken in a slightly unflattering manner and therefore did not pass censorship. For example, a photo of Goebbels reading with his orthopedic right shoe clearly visible and several photos of Hitler with half-open mouth or closed eyes.
Schaub had been there from the start (Mitgliedsnummer 81, 1920) and had been a participant in the Bierkellerputsch. From 1925 he was included in Hitler's inner circle as personal assistant. He was also one of the few who remained close to the dictator until the end of the war. It was Schaub too who was ordered in April 1945 to burn the personal documents from the Reichskanzlei and the Führerbunker. Having done so, he travelled to southern Germany to destroy all documents from the houses and the Berghof. When he was captured he was seen as a simple hanger-on. Schaub was imprisoned from 1945 to 1949 and then became a pharmacist in Munich. Several years ago, this album surfaced in France together with several letters and books from the Berghof library.
On the photos: the adjutant is often shown, as are Adolf Hitler and his inner circle. Recognisable events include the 1933 Reichstag elections 1933, the opening of the International Automobile Exhibition 1934, the return of the London Vlotten delegation 1934, the Harvest festival at Bückeberg 1935, Hitler's visit to Grevenburg 1936 etc.
