[Kees de Tippelaar] L.C. Dudok de Wit (1843-1913). 4 b/w picture postcards
1901-1904, all circulated, with portrait and stamps of Dudok de Wit and with text for and address of athletic phenomenon Johan Hendrik Pootjes (1882-1944) (various defects).
Two cards with signature of Dudok de Wit in reproduction, the earliest card (1901) with signature in pen. Dudok de Wit was an immensely rich Dutch eccentric and avid hiker. He completed several long hikes, including being the first white European to finish a 3506 km-long hike through Java over the course of several months. He is viewed as a pioneer of long-distance walking. Johan Hendrik Pootjes was an athletic phenomenon himself as well as an artist. On the cards Dudok de Wit calls him "Mijn gekuitspierden Pootjes", "Het yzeren longen wonder, sportvriend" and writes on another card: "G8e kampioen! Dank voor uw pr8igen heldhaftigen snuit. Landlooper Kees Waterchinees". (total 4)
