[Bookbindings] Willy Deffke (c. 1900). Portfolio with profusely batiked decoration
boards made from vellum across leatherbacked boards, front board with beautiful profusely batiked motif with golden flowers and circles besides the short title of the contents, back board more plainly printed and with gilt-lettered signature "Willy Deffke", large folio (48 x 36 cm.).
Front board tender due to the torn, dried-out leather of the spine; boards originally provided with 8 ties, now lacking all. Beautifully designed portfolio; moreover, work by Willy Deffke is particularly rare. Onze Kunst vol. XIV, July-December 1908, lists a batiked binding and a batiked portfolio by Deffke.
