Flux Year Box 1 (Book version), 1964
Assembled, designed and produced by George Maciunas. Anthology of flat objects by Fluxus artists in envelopes bound together by three metal bolts. 19 x 21 x 4 cm. Housed in a wooden mailing crate (25.5 x 23.5 x 7.5 cm) which has the title 'Fluxkit' sprayed on it. Contains 16 envelopes with printed matter or small objects enclosed intermixed with around 50 leaves, partly printed on transparent overlays.
Edition of one of around 100 copies produced over a 13 year period. This appears to be an early version, with work by Joe Jones, Ann Halprin, Emmett Williams, Chieko Shiomi, La Monte Young and others. The book is wrapped in the original transparent plastic bag. The box and envelopes are in very good condition. An iconic book object. Provenance: According to Tjeerd Deelstra the work was acquired during his stay with George Maciunas in 1974, directly from the artist. Please note that the wooden box differs from other known boxes, as it is oddly titled ‘Fluxkit'.
