Arthur Goldsteen (1908-1985) - Maroef
Ibn Ibrahim - De allerwonderlijkste avonturen van de arme schoenlapper Maroef. Born, Assen, c. 1954. Complete story with original of this charming children's book in comic-book style by Arthur Goldsteen. Script written in pencil and file with alternative cover and 33 drawings and sketches for the book.
*Although published only much later, the book was entirely written and drawn during the Second World War by Goldsteen, a Jew, who in the words of his daughter-in-law must have had at least 45 hiding places during those years. Goldsteen became mostly known for his posters, advertising work and, at a later age, trompe-l'oeils. This fine work - the only published children's picture book by him - reveals his all-round illustration skills.
