Piet Mondriaan (1872-1944)

Manuscript postcard signed P. Mondriaan and "Piet" addressed to Monsieur Verhoeven. Artiste. Peintre. Mes Chers Amis", two stamps: Amsterdam; 6 X 1915, and Paris; 10 X 1915. Written on both sides. Exceptionally interesting letter in which Mondrian announces that "La circle d'Art Mod. Est fini ". Schelfh. [Out], Sluyters, Gestel et moi l'ont quittis et tiennent une exposition ensemble." Moreover, he writes how he lives in Laren and from time to time in Amsterdam, an important moment in Mondrian's development as an artist as he meets Bart van der Leck and Theo van Doesburg there. Furthermore, Mondrian writes about his lack of funds: "Je ne peux pas encore rentrer a Paris: il faut avoir quelque argent pour vivre, n'est ce pas?"
