Before the title a short publisher's catalogue with (chess) games. Waterstained, else good. Elias Stein was chess teacher to the sons of stadtholder William V, among whom the future king William I. He used chess strategy with the strategy of war and treated both subjects as a game. Additionally, Stein created a response to d2-d4 with f7-f5, thus creating the Dutch Defence. Cf. LN 556.
