[Van Dyck. Extremely rare portrait series] De konst-kamer der allerschoonste portraitten
van verscheide prinsen en prinsessen, doorlugtige mannen, vermaarde schilders en andere. Geschildert door den vermaarden Antoni van Dyck (...). Welken den auteur zelve heeft laaten snyden, op zyn kosten, door de beste meesters van zyn tydt. Dit werk kan ook dienen tot vervolg van de Konst-Kamer van van Dyck, gedrukt te Antwerpen. The Hague, Alberts and Van der Kloot, 1728, letterpress title page in red and black with engraved title vignette, followed by an extra engraved portrait of emperor Rudolf II by Aegidius Sadeler (dated 1603) and 50 engraved portraits after Van Dyck, contemporary halfleather, gilt back with morocco letterpiece, folio (binding sl. worn).
The first edition of this specific series of portraits appeared in 1722 at Jan Swart in Amsterdam, as a supplement to Le cabinet des plus beaux portraits (...) (Antwerp, H. and C. Verdussen, c. 1720). This edition was followed by a French edition in 1723. Our edition is the extremely rare second edition (only 2 copies in PiCarta, incl. at the Rijksmuseum), which was issued simultaneously in French.
