Cagnolini, 1670, (26),1056 p., beautifully bound in 19th-century full richly gilt crushed blue morocco by Antoine Chatelin, both covers panelled with central coat of arms of the Duc de Chartres, Robert d'Orléans (1840-1910), within a double set of triple fillet borders with corner fleurons, gilt inside dentelles, gilt and ribbed spine, a.e.g., 4to.

Half title backed, lvs. A1-4 neatly restored. A few other sm. imperfections to inside and outside, but a very fine copy with the rare supralibros of Robert de Bourbon-d'Orléans as the Duc de Chartres. The duke was a military man who fought on the side of the Northern States in the American civil war and participated in the French-German war in 1870. The work describes the wars in which the author, the Italian historian and diplomat Davila (1576-1631), took part. The first edition was published in Venice in 1630.
