*First Dutch translation (by J.J. Abbink) of Bulwers 1842 occult/Rosicrucian novel. Bought at the bookstore of Vincents 'oom Hein' (1814-1877). After selling his bookstore Hein would work at Goupil The Hague from 1859-1872, together with his brother, Vincents 'oom Cent'. Vincent van Gogh read at least one or two of Bulwers novels (cf. letters to Theo, 15 March 1876 and 26 November 1883).
