He was also very close to the royal family, as is evident from the fact that in 1901, as a special civil servant, he blessed Wilhelmina's marriage to Duke Hendrik of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He was also one of the few people who descended to Queen Mother Emma's burial vault at her funeral in 1934. These royal letters are therefore of an intimate nature. Letters by Wilhelmina and Emma are very scarce.
