From leaf CX onwards with marginal wormholes, occ. sl. affecting the text; the final 2 quires waterst. in blank lower outer margin. Backstrip dam. and outer corners showing. With old owner's entry "Ex libris Patri Pauli de Cheuilly" in pen on title-p. and engr. bookplate of Leon Say on first free endpaper. Very rare, relatively early French translation. The first edition of this translation was published in 1531. Antonio de Guevara (ca. 1481-1545) was a Spanish bishop and author. The first edition of his Libro áureo, listing facts from the life and letters of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, was published in 1528.
