A few lvs. heavily stained. Binding rubbed. First-hand account by the French travelling physician Charles Dellon (1649 - ca.1710). After travelling 6 years in the East, he was denounced to the Inquisition by the Portuguese governor of Daman, after which he was brought to Goa, where he was detained for 2 years. He was subsequently sent to the galleys for five years in Portugal, but later acquitted by the great-inquisitor. The first edition of his account was published in Leyden, in 1687. (2) Paulus Odontius chapelain de Waldstein et Styrie, ses demeles avec l'inquisition, sa condamnation a mort et sa delivrance miraculeuse. Geneva, J.-G. Fick, 1868, 41,(1) p., contemp.
