*Max und Moritz is a 19th-century illustrated German satirical children's tale of two mischievous boys playing 7 pranks, of which the last one does not turn out well for them. It is often seen as the forerunner of comics, and was very popular in the early 20th century. See also lot nos. 3160, 3161 and 3164.
