[Albinism] "Tom Jack (?)"
Friedländer, Hamburg, 1935. 47 x 36 cm. Lith. no. 9035.
Mild toning along middle folding line.
*The lithograph does not have a title, but we can safely assume that the man depicted is Tom Jack, the "Ice King". Karl Breu (1884-1953) adopted his stage name Tom Jack, following the artistry of Houdini, an escape artist and magician. However, he was mostly remembered for his unusual looks: Karl was born with severe albinism, and intertwined his act and his physical features of a snow white skin, white hair and pink eyes into a mythological persona: the "Ice King".
