Sanja Ivelovic (1949, Zagreb) was one of the first feminist artists to emerge from the former Yugoslavia’s experimental art scene of the 1970s. In 'Tragedy of a Venus' she presents a selection of tabloid photos of Marilyn Monroe juxtaposed with similarly composed snapshots of the artist herself, offering a reflection on the prescribed ideals of femininity by Hollywood/consumer images.
