[Original engraved copperplate] J.A. Boland (1838-1922). "Benedicta tu in mulieribus"

Original engraved copperplate dep. Madonna with child surrounded by a border with putti, after C. Schut, 29 x 25,5 cm, with title, "copie", the names of the artists and the address of Kemink et Fils in Utrecht engr. in reverse in the plate.

Copy in reverse by Johannes Arnoldus Boland, after the engraving by Cornelis Schut I (1597-1655). We could not trace copies of prints produced with this plate, they would obviously be in the same direction as the original print by Schut. Extensive writing on the firm Kemink en zoon, cf. Boerma, Borms et al, Kinderprenten, volksprenten, centsprenten, Populaire grafiek in de Nederlanden 1650-1950, p. 208-210: "Kende Kemink & Zoon in de jaren dertig van de negentiende eeuw nog zo'n dertig werken, in de jaren zestig telde de fondscatalogus zo'n 900 titels, waarvan de helft op godsdienstig gebied."
