Engraving depicts the battle of Macao. This battle was an attempt by the V.O.C. to conquer the city from the Portuguese between June 22 and 24 in 1622. Apart from the clouds, the view is identical to the one that was published in Joan Nieuhof, Het gezantschap der Neêrlandtsche Oost-Indische Compagnie, 1665 (perhaps from another edition).
