Seven 18th cent. ex libris: (1) "Exitus Acta Probat. George Washington"

Wood-engr. bookplate of George Washington, sheet size 9 x 7 cm.

Sl. foxed; sl. remnants of former mounting verso. An intriguing copy; precise date of printing could not be determined as no other such copies could be traced. Very fine impression w. much contrast, on wove paper with watermark of almost certainly the Great Seal of the United States, also with a few stars like those in the coat-of-arms recto clearly recognisable. (2) Engr. bookplate of Sir William Henry Ashurst of Waterstock, Oxfordshire (1725–1807), 11 x 9 cm, with his coat-of-arms, motto "Degeneranti Genus Opprobrium" and manuscript owner's entry "Ashhurst Waterstock", under passepartout. -and 4 other 18th cent. heraldic engr. ex libris, dated 1701, 1702, 1780 and undated, tipped onto mounts. Added: manuscript ex libris dated 1761, also tracing in pen an engr. ill. on the other side of the leaf. (total 7)
