Dick Higgins, extensive correspondence with Jan van Toorn
Collection of ca. 35 letters sent by Higgins to van Toorn between 1989 and 1996. The letters refer to (collaborative) publishing/recording projects, Fluxus scores, Fluxus artists (some fun gossip), personal matters et al. Also added are 4 postcards and photocopied documentary material such as a bibliography, book catalogue and schedules of the mid 1990s.
Dick Higgins (1938-1998) was an American artist, composer, art theorist, poet, publisher and a co-founder of the Fluxus movement. He founded Something Else Press in 1963, and Unpublished Editions (later renamed Printed Editions) in 1972. Jan van Toorn (b. 1953) publishes sound art documents on audiocassette and vinyl. His label Slowscan is based in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He published various audio documents by Fluxus artists including the influential 8-cassette box ‘Fluxus Anthology 30th Anniversary 1962-1992 Sound Events’ (1994). (total ca. 40)
