Curious erotic print, depicting a group of women worshipping a statue of Priapus, a fertility god who is usually identifiable by his oversized, permanent erection, which gave rise to the medical term "priapism". (2-3) Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617) (after). 'Portraits of Titus Manlius Torquatus and Mucius Scaevola'. 2 engr. from the series of Roman heroes, both 24.5 x 15.3 cm, numb. 3 and 5 in the image and 4 and 6 in lower right corner, both w. engr. 4-line Latin verse below. Both creased. -and 9 other engr., 17th-18th cent., incl. a fine large portrait of Caius Octavius Augustus by Jeremias Falck (1610-77), signed and dated 1645 in the plate (waterst. and other defects, proof state before letters).
