Robert Barry, Inert Gas Series: Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon
/From a Measured Volume to Indefinite Expansion. Los Angeles, Seth Siegelaub, 1969. Poster, offset printed b/w, 90 x 60 cm. Print run of 600. Announcement for Barry's notorious 1969 performance which consisted of releasing five volumes of odourless, colourless, noble gasses into the atmosphere in various locations surrounding Los Angeles.
The poster functions as tangible proof of the imperceptible piece. It features a completely blank sheet except for a text line at the bottom, mentioning the work's title, a post box address for Siegelaub, and a phone number connecting to an answering machine playing a recorded message describing the work. The poster is folded in 12 parts for mailing, with creasing along the folds, and two tears at the top folds. Rare document.
