[Thonet] (Stahlrohrmöbel). Thonet. Trade-catalogue for tubular steel furniture

(Frankenberg/ Eder, Gebr. Thonet, 1930), portfolio w. 53 loosely inserted cards, all w. photographs of tubular steel furniture, mostly designs by Marcel Breuer, but also by Ludwig, Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, Emile Guyot and Béwé (Bruno Weil), in the orig. portfolio des. by Kurt Schmidt.

All cards and portfolio w. library-stamps of the Instituut voor Kunstnijverheidsonderwijs in Amsterdam (the cards partly recto and verso). Portfolio w. sm. tears to edges of pockets, intriguing, partly illegible owner’s entry “H. Tho.” in pen at the front and some other minor traces of use and age. A good copy, with a very large number of cards. The first issue of this catalogue, a later issue has the word “Stahlrohr Möbel” on the front. We found copies with greatly varying numbers of cards, probably because sellers could assemble their own copy with the cards of the furniture they sold. Our copy w. ticket on the inside of the frontwr.: Stalen Thonet Meubelen. N.V. Handelmaatschappij voor Gebogen Meubelen en Houtindustrie, Amsterdam. The catalogue features many examples of furniture-designs that are now iconical, such as the Thonet B 3 by Breuer, the B 306 by Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand and the MR 533/25 533/22 by Miës van der Rohe. Our copy w. 4 extra cards of Thonet “Moderne stalen meubelen”, issued by the mentioned Dutch reseller, including a typescript invoice with their printed letterhead, addressed to De Fa. Oosterbaan, Steenwijk and dated 14 Augustus 1935.
