[Limburg. Zuid-Willemsvaart] Two manuscript copies concerning the Zuid-Willemsvaart

(1) Letter to "Sire!" (king William I), 4 p., w. at the end "Dit adres is Zijne Majesteit te Brussel aangeboden Januari 1827, door een commissie uit de regering daartoe gedeputeerd bestaande uit de Heren (...)", followed by four names of "Raden", incl. J. Batta and J. van Panhuys, 34 x 20.5 cm.

Manuscript concerning the plans for extension of the Zuid-Willemsvaart from Maastricht to Luik, and the "groote bezwaaren welke gezegd plan voor de stad Maastricht oplevert". The letter lists 7 (insurmountable) problems for the city, because of the plans to lead the canal straight through the city. The listed problems incl. the drainage of the river Jeker ("volgens het project dwars door de Wandelplaats hare ontlasting in de Maas te doen (...)"), the stability of the "Landhoofd der Maasbrugge" ("(...) aan dezelve een onherstelbare schade zoude worden toegebragt"), the interruption of the water pipes below the city, the demolishing of 50 houses in a time that Maastricht already had a shortage of houses, and the risks of flooding ("waaruit ontzaggelijke schade zal moeten ontstaan"). (2) Letter "Aan Z. Exc. den heere Staatsraad Gouverneur, 2 p., dated "Maastricht den 16 Juny 1830", signed at the end "De Kamer van Koophandel".
