Essen, H. von (1886-1947). Three etchings: (1) Haremvrouwen

Col. aquatint, 17 x 11.5 cm, signed and dated 4-5-22 in the plate, signed and titled and "proefdruk Joh. D. Scherft" in pencil, under passepartout. Foxed in blank margins. Von Essen learned the etching techniques in the printing office of Johan Scherft (1891-1969). This early etching and the following two were apparently made during that learning process, but already in 1922 he had an exposition of his etchings in the Lakenhal in Leyden. (2) 'Two figures'. Aquatint printed in blue, 17 x 14.5 cm, signed and dated 30-4-'27 in the plate, signed and "proefdruk Joh. D. Scherft" in pencil, under passepartout. -and 1 other aquatint by the same, also dated 1922 and printed by J.D. Scherft.
