Azimut was an artist-run space founded by Manzoni and Castellani, located in a basement at Via Clerici 12 in Milan. It was inaugurated on the 4th of December 1959 with Manzoni’s solo show Le Linee. This was the first presentation of the -later to become famous- Linee series, drawings of a single line on a length of paper, signed, rolled up and sealed in a cardboard tube. The experimental space only lasted 8 months but presented 13 exhibitions featuring international avant garde artists. Manzoni and Castellani also directed an artists' periodical titled Azimuth, launched in the same year.
