Scrap No. 4. February 16, 1961. New York's outrageous good fortune
One sheet, newsprint, folded to 8 pages, 30.5 x 22.5 cm. Edited and published by Anita Ventura and Sidney Geist in New York. Scrap featured a collection of artist writings and manifestos and can be seen as a precursor to contemporary artists' magazines. Eight issues were published between 1960-1962.
This issue contains a critique by Sidney Geist about the Rothko exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art curated by Peter Selz and an essay by Selz. Also features artists' quotes in the section 'Report from the Club' by Mark di Suvero, Claes Oldenburg (I've never used smells in my things- not intentionally, anyway), George Brecht et al. as well as self fabricated ads for exhibition spaces (Jasper Johns at Castelli, Grillo at Howard Wise) and art supply stores. Printed on cheap newspaper stock, hence browned and some edge wear, overall in good condition.
