Commonplace book most likely by the Catholic Belgian lawyer Georges Claeys (obituaries loosely inserted/ glued in book) against liberalism. Text in French in a clear, legible hand. Also incl. a few other entries from the late 19th cent. to 1944, bound w. many blank pages. Gilt red cl. Added: La Sainte Messe. Beautifully hand-painted French prayer booklet in the style of a medieval manuscript, late 19th cent. Finely bound in gilt leather, a.e.g., gilt turn-ins, gilt fore edges.
