Contemp. handcol. print w. 16 woodcuts w. captions in Dutch and French. 42 x 32.5 cm. Centre fold, some sm. tears in blank margins. The print's story is set in the French colony Île-de-France, now Mauritius. Paul and Virginie illegally take a runaway female slave home, then take her back to her master, who punishes her, fearing a revolt of his slaves; Paul defends the slave. -and 4 others on the story of Robinson Crusoe, the humorous story of Marius Castolade and Ménélick (in Abyssinia, now Ethiopia), "De twee blinden van Trebizonde" and a story about Sinbad the sailor.
