The company L. Goutsmit was founded in 1885. Initially, it was mainly concerned with importing foreign wallpaper, but from ca. 1925 the company started manufacturing their own products and utilising designs of various Dutch artists. In 1927 the company fused with Hoff & Zn, establishing the firm Goudsmit-Hoff; thereafter, the company grew to a production capacity of approx. 10 million rolls of wallpaper and over 300 employees. In the 1980s the company was acquired by Rath & Doodeheefver.
