[Icons] Russian travel icon of the Nilov monastery 1829
Tempera painting on wooden panel, 11 x 8.5 cm. Depicting the Nilov Monestary at Stolobny Island and Lake Seliger, Saint Nilus to the left and a sm. window w. Mary and Child at the top, w. driven silver riza or oklad with the same image leaving only the hands and faces of the painting free, with the following hallmarks in lower edge: mark of the assayer Mikail Mikailovich Karpinshii, city mark of St. Petersburg, degree mark 84 (2nd degree silver) and unidentified maker's mark DI in Cyrillic. The painted panel w. vertical crack in the middle, dam. spots, dusty, lacking a stand at the back, the oklad and panel w. holes along edges from former nails. Despite the defects an attractive icon. Added: a sm. copper panel w. an enameled image of Mary and Child, 7.5 x 4.3 cm. Upper left corner dam.
