[Miniature portraits] Circular coloured gouache portrait of a mother and child

Dutch, first half 19th cent., Ø7 cm, framed under glass in brass ring, incorporated in the lid of a bone (?) box. A very refined and attractive, skillfully executed miniature portrait. The box (w. sm. pieces of the bottom on the inside missing) contains a very nice keepsake: a small lock of hair accompanied by a rolled paper note w. annotation in pen: "Obit 11 Decb. 1805. Triste et precieux souvenir" and (verso) "haar van de moeder van Mama zaliger".
