Signs of use. Beefcake magazines were presented as dedicated to fitness, health and bodybuilding. However, their unstated primary purpose was erotic imagery for gay and bisexual men, skirting mid-20th-century cultural taboos against homosexuality and censorship laws which prohibited depictions of full nudity.
