[Moveables] Scènes maritimes mises en action, avec figures coloriées et découpées
Paris, Pintard jeune, n.d. (ca. 1840), 32 p., w. fold. col. lithogr. background plate w. slits for inserting 14 cut-out col. lithogr. pieces (numb. 1-11, and 3 unnumbered, these pieces are loosely inserted in front pocket), orig. hcalf w. mounted col. lithogr. plate on front cover, obl. 8vo. The "table et avis pour le placement des sujets" mentions 12 pieces, of which "Le rivage" is number 12 (one of the unnumb. pieces in the present copy).
Text partly waterst., the large fold. background plate partly loosening, a bit wrinkled and w. smaller defects, pieces loose and binding w. imperfections. Very rare instructive booklet, remarkable not only because of the main subject, whaling, but also because native fishermen (mentioned in the text are the Doreï of New Guinea and the Raïatea of the Tahiti archipel) and Frenchmen are both part of the possible scenes. The introduction (monogrammed Ch. L.), explains that the scenes are too serious for children.
