Nancy Spero (1926-2009) was a leading figure in the feminist art movement of the 1960s. Her drawings and collages are inspired by ancient mythologies and iconography. She developed a pictographic language of physical gestures and motion, or hieroglyphics, reconstructing the diversity of representations of women from prehistory to the present.
