Picasso, Pablo (1881-1973). 1000 newspaper and magazine clippings

The oldest clipping dated 26 June 1926, the newest after the death of Picasso, mounted in 11 unif. paper portfolios, the larger part numbered (II and IV-X) and w. ill. on front wr. A lovingly assembled extensive archive, also comprising invitations, programs or entry tickets for exhibitions and carbon copies of letters. A recurring name is that of G.H.J. van der Laan, apparently the person who assembled the archive. One carbon copy of a letter addressed to "Cher Monsieur Picasso", dated Amst., 29 August 1953, reveals that in 1912 Van der Laan had already seen a painting of Picasso for the first time. The other letters by or to Van der Laan, show that he frequently wrote directly to newspapers such as De Waarheid and The Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Also present is a greeting card stamped on occasion of the exhibition Hommage à Picasso, Petit Palais, Nov. 1966 - Febr. 1967, w. printed "Meileurs voeux" completed in handwriting "pour votre anniversaire et une très longue vie 20 Jan. '67". Loosely inserted are also three proof plates w. a total of 4 illustrations after Picasso printed from clichés, of which at least 2 (head of a woman in black and the large owl) were used as front wrappers for Stedelijk Museum catalogues.
