[VOC] Commemoration of the founding of the V.O.C., 20 March 1602-1934
Small archive concerning the 332nd "Herdenkingsdag Oost-Indische Compagnie", containing letters, menu cards, newspaper clippings, a program booklet, a map, etc. Comprises a.o.: (1) Letter directed to "het Opperhooft van de Taeffel-ronde der Compagnie-schap van Oudt Borgeren der goede stadt Batavia", signed G.B.J. van Heuven and dated 17 March 1934, purposefully in an older form of the Dutch language. (2) Eet- en Praatlijst voor het Tweede Jaarlyk Feestmael van Hollanders aan de Azuren Custe ter Herdenckinge van de Stichting der Edele vereenigde O.I. Compagnie Gehoude in het Graafschap Nice (...) in het Eethuis van Stern. Menu card w. the name (in pen) M. van der Weide. "Gewesen Drucker ende Boeckverkooper tot Batavia", bifolium w. 3 mounted plates, w. the signatures in pencil of the 9 members present on that occasion. (3) Menu card from the same occasion, but in French and w. indication of the restaurant Hotel Prince de Galles in Monte Carlo, recto w. the signatures in pen of the same 9 people, all w. their (former) official professions, verso w. a print after Louis Icart. Silverfish dam. (4) Typescript letter signed in pen by Gregorius van Haersma de With, consul of the Netherlands in Monaco, addressed to M. van der Weide, thanking the participants of the V.O.C. commemoration for the invitation to be the guest of honour at the dinner in Restaurant Stern in Nice.
