Gelatin silver print, 35 x 28 cm (image 34 x 12 cm), 1980s reprint. Two stamps verso, 'Reproduction from the collections of the Library of Congress' and 'Collection Fiolet', as well as a handwritten call number.

Evans earned acclaim for his portrayal of the harsh living conditions and rural life during the Great Depression, especially in the American South. In 1936, he joined forces with James Agee to author 'Let Us Now Praise Famous Men', chronicling the lives of farming families in Alabama. It is possible that this image was included in the documentation for this work.
