Japan and Java, travel album
Early 20th cent. Approx. 300 gelatin silver and albumen prints, all approx. 9 x 9 cm, inserted in a partially filled album. Photos of many Japanese temples and shrines, but also photos showing life at the temples as well as street and topographical views. The photos from Java all have handwritten captions in French, and incl. photos of a.o. Batavia, the Sukabumi market, Lake Situ Bagendit (and a nearby village), Leles, the Progo River, the Borobudur temple, Surakarta and Surabaya; incl. many street views and photos of everyday life.
The album's spine bears the title 'China and Japan,' yet the photographs within are of Japan and Java. Some prints faded.
