Album amicorum of N.C. de Gyselaar, ca. 1808
Containing 4 drawings, 6 apparently unrelated manuscript notes and approx. 65 unused blank lvs, loose in gilt red mor. chemise w. gilt-lettered 'N.C. de Gyselaar' and 'Album Amicorum' on covers, dated 1808 on spine, in brown mor. slipcase, 10 x 17 cm.
The nicest contribution is signed 'Es. Helmigh Ao. 1810', and comprises the name N.C. de Gyzelaar [sic] in letters shaped as humans, almost certainly produced by the deaf and dumb artist Elzenerus Helmich (1776-?), active in Leiden at the time. Other drawings are monogrammed L.J. d. G (Leonhard Jan de Gyselaar, attributed in pencil verso, allegorical gouache) and 'P.C.D.G. fc. 1820' (G.C. de Gijzelaar, attributed in pencil verso, view of Huis Zuylenstein).
