*Knudsen was a pioneer within Norwegian photography. His work provides valuable insight into Norwegian history and ethnology. The Sámi (Sami or Saami) are the indigenous peoples of the Arctic area of Sápmi (parts of present-day Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Kola Peninsula in Russia).
